Uoink 3.13.0: Import a list, mid-video card images and silent-update restarts
Import a list. Paste a list link in Sources > Import a list and Uoink queues every video in it for a normal capture, with transcripts. It reads a HackerTube playlist, category, area or the whole collection, a Hacker News thread, a Reddit thread or a YouTube playlist. You see a preview first (“Found 37 videos, 5 already in your library”), then one Import button. Imports go 50 videos at a time, and Next 50 works through long lists. Videos you already have are skipped, and the rest join the download queue, which captures one video at a time. Each import keeps where it came from as a tag, and HackerTube's note on why Hacker News likes a video shows in the reader.
From the command line, run uoink import-list <url> --preview, then run it again without --preview to queue the batch; --limit and --offset page through big lists. Agents get the new import_list MCP tool.
HackerTube (hackertube.org) is by Andrej Karpathy. Its data is built on the open-index/hacker-news dataset (Hacker News data by Y Combinator) and is licensed ODC-By 1.0. Uoink fetches it when you import and bundles none of it, and every imported HackerTube item keeps the credit line.
For You has a From lists you imported panel: the imported videos you haven't opened yet, ranked by your own taste.
A Card image setting in Settings > Library and export: Library and For You cards for saved videos show a screenshot from the middle of the video by default, or the original thumbnail. Older captures switch only when a screenshot near the halfway mark is already saved; nothing is downloaded again.
A silent Windows install or upgrade, such as winget upgrade, starts Uoink again if it was running before, with no splash, dashboard or toast. If you quit Uoink before the update, it stays quit. The Linux container creates an empty library before it serves MCP, so a fresh container answers searches with no results instead of an error.
The MCP server now exposes 92 tools, or 35 with UOINK_MCP_TOOLSET=core; import_list is the new one. Import a list needs the network when you import (HackerTube, the Algolia Hacker News API, Reddit or YouTube). The Windows installer is about 519 MB and the Mac preview DMG about 716 MB. The Windows installer is still unsigned, so SmartScreen warns. The Mac build is still a preview for Apple Silicon on macOS 15 or later.
What was tested for 3.13.0
Agent Install 32 tested the installed 3.13.0 build in an isolated profile: 26/26 PASS. Stdio listed 92 full / 35 core / 92 modern tools, and Claude Code 2.1.316 (haiku) connected with 92 tools and called get_schema_version. uoink import-list --preview previewed a HackerTube list, paged it with --offset, refused a single-video link cleanly and left the library unchanged. The silent restart was checked step by step against the isolated install: a quiet start with no window, splash or toast, and a real Quit that stayed quit. The full silent installer over a running copy was not run, because an isolated install skips that step by design. Receipt 31's checks, including an in-place upgrade over 3.12.1, passed again. Codex CLI was not re-tested, and the Mac build was not part of this receipt.
On Windows, reload the browser extension once after updating; Claude Desktop users should reinstall the 3.13.0 bundle and restart Desktop to get import_list. On a Mac, quit Uoink and close MCP clients before replacing the app.
